Annual University of Toronto Model United Nations Conference Trip

March 26, 2024

The MPS Model United Nations Team rocked the stage at the University of Toronto Model United Nations (UTMUN), tackling some of the gnarliest global challenges. Our students were shining stars at the UTMUN conference, where brilliant minds gathered to brainstorm solutions for the world's most challenging issues. Hats off to our students (and our amazing staff who guide them along the way) - we've got some serious faith in the next generation!

*Special Notice: Aaron, Merrick Prep grade 11 boarding student received Honourable Mention at the University of Toronto Model United Nations in recognition of his efforts and achievements in the 1812 debate- please join us in a warm congratulations to Aaron!

Demonstrating exceptional skills in diplomacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving, our student’s dedication and passion for addressing complex global issues were evident as they engaged in lively debates and negotiated innovative solutions with other delegates. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential of young leaders to make a positive impact on the world stage.

“The Merrick prep trip to participate in Toronto University’s Model UN was a very insightful experience. It not only allowed us to enrich ourselves with new knowledge we might not have previously had, it also pushed us to meet other people around Canada and create new connections in places that we might not have even thought of. Every committee had a vastly different experience, so I can't speak for everyone when I say I enjoyed my participation in the committee and the opportunity I had to flex my knowledge of world history and politics on fellow high schoolers. Overall, it was a good experience that I recommend to anyone looking into it.” Rell, a current grade 11 boarding student who joined us in grade 10 from Panama.

“If I could describe the Model United Nations trip in one word it would be rememberable. Not only was it easy for us to meet new people, but the organization of the University of Toronto has become better. It was an enjoyable experience because we had enough time to enjoy ourselves going to malls, tasting new food and seeing new places while being there for the main reason, model United Nations. All this to say, the work being done at this conference is not for the weak.” Neema, a current grade 11 day (local) student who joined us in grade 9 from Kenya/Canada.

As our students continue to hone their skills and expand their knowledge through experiences like MUN, we are confident that they will become catalysts for positive change in their communities and beyond. With their enthusiasm, creativity, and determination, the future looks bright indeed. Cheers to the MPS Model United Nations Team for their outstanding performance and to the educators who support and nurture their growth. The next generation is in good hands, and we can't wait to see the incredible contributions they will make to our world.
