Merrickville & Surrounding Community
Merrick Preparatory School is located in the town of Merrickville, Ontario, voted the prettiest town in Canada and known for its historic charm, natural beauty and artisan shops. Students enjoy all that Merrickville has to offer including restaurants and cafes, charming shops, art galleries, an ice cream shop, a candy store and the local spa. Merrickville also offers plenty of activities in which our students can partake, including many year-round festival, sports fields and facilities, nature trails, fishing and boating, canoeing and kayaking, hiking and walking, an outdoor skating rink, and a community centre, along with two large parks, a large library, public beach and the Rideau Canal and Waterway – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Merrickville is in a prime location, only 45 minutes from the Ottawa, the nation’s capital! Our students have access to all of the nation’s capital resources, from all of the country’s national museums and research facilities, to access to two universities, two colleges and the seat of our federal government! Ottawa hosts festivals year-round in which our students partake, from the famous Winterlude and Tulip Festival, to music and cultural events. The world’s Embassies host cultural events where our students from around the globe can find the familiar sense of home.
Farther afield our students have access to Toronto, Canada’s largest city and the worlds most multicultural metropolis, and Montreal, the centre of fashion and cuisine in Canada. And closer to home Merrickville is surrounded by quaint and friendly towns: Kemptville and Smiths Falls offer larger shopping centres and authentically Canadian atmosphere with farmers markets, heritage museums and many festivals.
